Middlesbrough remain in contention in the top ten of the EFL Championship despite the Vertu Motors-backed side having to settle for a point from a home game with Blackburn Rovers.

‘Boro had secured three wins on the bounce to close in on the play-off places ahead of the visit of site still seeking a win since John Eustace took charge in early February.

Whilst the game would lack goals, there were plenty of chances for both sides, with Blackburn’s star striker Sammy Szmodics seeing a first half effort well saved by Seny Dieng and Marcus Forss going close for the home side when he got on the end of a flick-on from Luke Ayling after a well worked corner routine.

After Forss was forced off injured, his replacement – Finn Azaz – went close in the second half with a shot narrowly wide of the net, whilst Isiah Jones saw an effort hit the bar late on as ‘Boro chased the winner.

Blackburn themselves could have taken the win after an almighty goal-mouth scramble but the points would be shared to leave ‘Boro sitting seven points off the top six.

Next up after the international break is a trip to Southampton on Good Friday before the visit of Sheffield Wednesday on Easter Monday.
