Burnley's Ten Men Endure Tough Capital Trip

Burnley suffered a tough trip to the capital after the Vertu Motors-backed side went down to a 3-0 defeat at Crystal Palace.

The Clarets were bidding to close the gap to the teams ahead in the table as the battle to avoid relegation from the Premier League hots up but almost went behind when a volleyed back pass from Charlie Taylor almost caught out goalkeeper James Trafford.

A poor pass out from Trafford ten minutes before the break handed the ball straight to Jefferson Lerma and when he was hauled down by Josh Brownhill, the referee showed the red card to send the Burnley man for an early bath.

The ten men were able to hold on until the 68th minute when Palace finally found a way through after a cross from Jordan Ayew from the right hand side was headed in by Chris Richards at the back post.

The second arrived minutes later when Ayew tapped in a cross from near range after Trafford was unable to cut out a cross from the left-hand side, whilst Burnley were chasing a goal back when Palace were able to break upfield and Vitinho was deemed to have fouled Matheus Franca.

Jean-Philippe Mateta was able to beat Trafford from the spot to score the third, with David Datro Fofana having a late consolation chalked off when Lorenz Assignon was deemed to be off-side and interfering with play.

A crucial home game against Bournemouth comes next this weekend at Turf Moor.
