Burnley Extend Unbeaten Run To Four
Burnley made it four games without defeat in the Premier League after the Vertu Motors-backed side picked up two draws from the Easter weekend.
The Clarets had gone into the international break on the back of a much-needed victory against Brentford, and returned to action with a trip to London to face Chelsea.
Missing David Datro Fofana against his parent club, Burnley saw ‘keeper Arijanet Muric make a fine early save from a deflected effort from Enzo Fernandez to keep the scores level before Wilson Odobert went close to the opening goal with a cross shot that Chelsea stopper Djordje Petrovic did well to turn behind.
After Chelsea had a goal chalked off for handball, Burnley’s hopes of victory took a turn when Lorenz Assignon was sent off for two yellow cards, the second of which saw the home side handed a penalty kick.
Cole Palmer converted the penalty to give Chelsea the lead but Burnley battled back after the break with Josh Cullen driving in a shot on the half-volley to level the scores.
Lyle Foster forced Petrovic into a save but Chelsea then went back in front when Raheem Sterling flicked the ball on to Palmer to add his second.
Burnley refused to be beaten however, and Dara O’Shea’s late header salvaged a point - which could have been three had Jay Rodriguez not thumped his own header against the bar late on.
From there, Burnley welcomed Wolves to Turf Moor and the home side grabbed the lead when a cross from O’Shea was fired into the net by Jacob Bruun Larsen.
Wolves drew level before half-time when Rayan Ait-Nouri headed in from a contentiously awarded free-kick, with the Clarets going close to a winner in the second half before having to settle for a point.
A win for Nottingham Forest leaves Burnley six points from safety ahead of a huge game with Everton this weekend.
