Exeter Chiefs rebounded from a disappointing defeat in the Gallagher Premiership last week with a fine comeback win against Bath securing a spot in the Investec Champions Cup quarter-final.

The Vertu Motors-backed side had lost to Sale a week earlier and was looking for an immediate response in the European competition.

The home side saw plenty of the ball in the opening half at Sandy Park but it was Bath who snared the lead, going ahead on 21 minutes when Thomas du Toit scored his ninth try of the season.

Ben Spencer missed the conversion when the ball was caught by heavy wind and blown away from the posts, with the Chiefs taking full advantage with an immediate response.

Picking up a loose ball, Ross Vintcent charged through to score, with Henry Slade adding the conversion to put Exeter in front.

However, a try from nothing from Ted Hill – converted by Spencer – meant Bath held a narrow 12-7 lead going into the half-time break.

Spencer extended that lead by three with an early penalty in the second half before fine play from Immanuel Feyi-Waboso allowed Greg Fisilau to cross.

The new England international then made up ground before Ethan Roots scored the third try, with Slade adding two second-half conversions to earn a spot in the next round.
