Volkswagen's all-new Touran promises increased interior space and efficiency

The order books are now open for Volkswagen's all-new Touran. The German automotive manufacturer has released prices and specifications for the family-friendly car, which boasts more space, greater practicality and new on-board technology systems.

The new Touran has been redesigned from the wheelbase up, which measures at 113mm longer than the previous model, which further increases the available interior space.

To make the most of the available space, drivers can fold flat the entire second and third row of seats, which gives the Touran a cargo capacity of 1,857 litres and means it has the largest luggage allowance among its class.

Two petrol and three diesel engines are available for the new Touran. Ranging from 110PS to 190PS, all of the options are Euro6 compliant and up to 19 per cent more efficient that those they replace.

The petrol line-up consists of a 1.2-litre 110 PS TSI with a six-speed manual gearbox and a 1.4-litre 150 PS that is offered with a choice of six-speed manual or seven-speed DSG gearbox. Diesel options consist of a 1.6-litre 110 PS with six-speed manual or seven-speed DSG, a 2.0-litre TDI 150 PS with six-speed manual or DSG, and a range-topping 2.0-litre TDI with 190 PS and standard six-speed DSG transmission.

Technology in the cabin of the Touran has also been upgraded. The entry-level S boasts automatic post-collision braking and pre-crash systems, seven airbags, 6.5-inch Composition Media system with DAB and Bluetooth, air conditioning, roof rails and seven seats. SE and SEL models feature even more gadgets as standard.
