Volkswagen celebrates 40 years of Golf GTI at Goodwood Festi

The Goodwood Festival of Speed is a renowned motoring event held every year in the south of England, attracting petrol heads in their thousands. Volkswagen are set to celebrate the 40th anniversary of their iconic Golf GTI at this year’s event.

The GTI is the jewel in Volkswagen’s sizeable crown, and is now in its seventh generation, looking better than ever. The special edition Golf GTI Clubsport S recently made history at Nürburgrin, taking the lap record for front wheel drive production cars. Factors contributing to the car’s success include its 305bhp, enlarged tailpipes, and semi-slick tyres.

Festival-goers can expect to see Volkswagen’s eye-catching display stand featuring a wide range of both new and classic cars from its range, including the brand new Tiguan, with is the first step in a new SUV for the German manufacturer. Also on display will be the Golf GTI Mk3, allowing VW fans to admire the evolution of the car over the years. Fans can also glimpse the future, with the Golf GTE Sport concept car.
