Volkswagen braced for e-Golf orders

The highly anticipated zero-emissions edition of the Volkswagen Golf has officially opened the books for orders.

Known as the e-Golf, it is Volkswagen's latest innovative model as it moves towards a carbon-neutral motoring future.

Powered by an 85kW/115PS electric motor, the car can produce maximum drive torque of 270N, while the front wheel drive can reach an electronically limited top speed of 140 kmh (87mph).

In the best possible scenario, the car is able to offer a driving range of 190km (118 miles) from just one charge of the 24.2 kWh battery. This powerful energy storage device can be charged to 80 per cent capacity in just half an hour, making it perfect for those with a hectic lifestyle.

Customers are now able to put in their orders for one of the new zero-emission models, with city drivers and eco-warriors sure to be at the head of the queue.
