We (myself and my wife Wendy) have just bought a used VW Golf from your Boston branch, which we had researched on your website. I rang the number on the website to see if the car was still available and I ended up at your Call Centre in Gateshead. Under normal circumstances I would 'balk' at this - I do not like 'impersonal' call centres. However the man I spoke to (sorry can't remember his name) confirmed the car was available and that he would get a sales person from your Boston branch to contact me. I had my doubts this would happen - not because of the salesman on the phone (he was excellent) but because of my previous experience of call centres. Half an hour later I was contacted by an Sales Executive from Boston, who I immediately found so easy to talk to. About 5 minutes later I received a further call from the chap at Gateshead to ask if I had had contact from Boston - I thought that was excellent. When I am looking for a car (or anything of any value) I try to weigh up the sales person as quickly as possible, and make it easier for them to weigh me up, by explaining that I can be 'a pedantic pain in the backside'. Him and myself found a conversational level immediately which made everything easier from then on. I asked him to give me a reason to travel from Rotherham to Boston (89 miles). He immediately offered to produce me a video of the car, which turned out to be excellent. We talked through the history of the car, and he convinced me it was worth the trip. By this time I was that confident about both himself and the car that I said I would travel to Boston by train to conclude the deal, BUT if it wasn't as described, he would pay my train fares!!!! He immediately agreed to this. I appreciate this put your Company at a little financial risk, but he put his trust in me. We came to Boston, and were picked up at the station (which was appreciated). The car was exactly as described and the deal was closed and processed that afternoon which enabled us to drive the car home. The treatment we received from him was superb in every respect. He knows his product, but just as importantly he has the ability to weigh up a customer and deal with what he sees. Also, I have spoken to him since, and he (unlike many others) showed the same enthusiastic approach when dealing with me after the sale. He is credit to your Company. He also introduced us to your General Manager, and it was immediately obvious why Customer Service was so good at Boston. His philosophy and determination that all staff should be of same high standard 'oused' out of him. To put the above into context, I am a retired police superintendent (for 33 years)and after that a managing director of a print company (for 21 years) I started with my sons. I have dealt with people from all walks of life all my working life, and because of my demands I am known as 'grumpy'. I have no problem with that. Both the sales executive and the general manager have no idea about my background. I hope that adds weight to the above. I would appreciate if they are given sight of these comments. Thanks for an excellent (if very expensive!!) deal, and the service that went with it, and hopefully, in advance, for future service.
